The waning moon deserves better PR. The full moon is a celebrity.
The new moon is a mystic. The waxing moon fuels our cultural obsession with growth and momentum.

But the waning moon? She’s the one who sits beside you on the park bench after everything falls apart. She’s the moon who helps you pack the last box after the breakup, who keeps quiet company in the evenings when there’s nothing left to say. She’s stillness without loneliness. The soft hand on the shoulder. The exhale after the storm.

On December 4th, we were blessed with the Long Night’s Moon, which came as a reminder of our cold little station on the wheel of the year as the solstice waits just ahead. Each night since, the moon has shed her shine a little more, slipping into her winter shawl as we hurtle into the holidays, ready or not.

So tonight, in honor of these waning energies, we sit at the feet of the Winter Crone. We ask her for a 3-card interwoven reading to guide our creativity through the dark, tending the hearth of the self, we ask ourselves what must be let go before the light returns.

Jess Adams is a songwriter, poet, and tarot reader whose creative work explores ways to re-enchant daily experience by inhabiting the liminal space between verbal and nonverbal communication. Deeply inspired by myth and folklore, he uses the cards as an intuitive tool to navigate the crossroads where the personal meets the archetypal and the everyday meets the Great Mystery. He is the resident tarot reader at Spiritually Rooted and teaches classes and workshops on songwriting and folklore. Classically trained, with a Bachelor of Music from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, Jess delights in creating music and stories alongside his cherished friends and collaborators.
